About me
Deryck Hodge is a writer turned web developer working as an engineering leader in news and media.. That’s the tagline at least, the simple version of the story, if you will, but there’s more. So let’s unpack it.
By day, I’m a senior engineering manager at Warner Bros. Discovery, where I lead the Tooling, Infrastructure, and Performance teams for CNN Content Platforms. We're focused on building a great infrastructure platform and developer experience. That work has been a recurring theme throughout my career. My previous stops include: Apple, Disney, AWS, Canonical, and the Washington Post, among others. Check out my LinkedIn profile if you want the full details on my career.
Before getting into software development, I went to school to be a writer and a teacher. I have an English degree. Writing is ultimately what lead me to the web, which is where my career was formed. If you're curious about my creative writing, I do have a few short stories posted on this site and a middle grade novel at Storybird (requires Storybird account). I also prototyped a comic with generative AI tools called Hartwell.
Outside all that, I'm married and have two grown daughters. I grew up in Alabama, lived all over the south, and now call Atlanta home. If you're curious, I have a post on where the site name "Anderycks" came from.
