About Deryck Hodge

Professionally, I’m a senior engineering manager at Warner Bros. Discovery, where I lead the Tooling, Infrastructure, and Performance teams for CNN Content Platforms. Building cloud infrastructure and great developer experiences has been a recurring theme throughout my career. Previously, I worked at Apple, Disney, AWS, Canonical, the Washington Post, and more.

Before getting into software development, I went to school to be a writer and a teacher. I have an English degree. Writing is ultimately what led me to the web, which is where my career was formed. If you're curious about my creative writing, I have a few short stories posted here.

Outside all that, I'm married and have two grown daughters. I grew up in Alabama, lived all over the US South, and now call Atlanta home. I love games of any kind, college football and MLS sports, and my reading tastes range from comics to literary fiction. I also really enjoy film and TV, especially going to movies in a theater.
