About me

Deryck Hodge is a web developer and writer based in Atlanta. That’s the tagline at least, the simple version of the story, if you will, but there’s more. So let’s unpack it.

Professionally, I’m a software developer and engineering leader focused on building on web and cloud for the media, entertainment, and publishing industries. I try to think deeply about how technology impacts creativity and storytelling. I’m currently  a senior engineering manager at Warner Bros. Discovery, where I lead the Tooling, Infrastructure, and Performance teams for CNN Content Platforms. My previous stops include Apple, Disney, AWS, Canonical, the Washington Post, and more.

The is my personal site where I write about all the things that interest me – building software for media, entertainment, and publishing companies, building content management systems, writing on the web, and sharing my own creative work. If you're into a cross section of those things, I've started a weekly newsletter I send out every Friday. It features a summary with my analysis of the week in tech for media, entertainment, and publishing devs. Subscribe to follow along!

As a writer, I focus on creative writing for the web. I’ve written short stories and a middle grade novel (requires Storybird account), and I’m currently working on a comic that I prototyped with generative AI tools called Hartwell.

Outside all that, I love playing games, especially hanging with friends in MMOs, and I’m a big fan of great stories, film and TV, college football, MLS, and traveling with my family.

If you're curious, I have a post on where the name "Anderycks" came from.
